I want to sell my old pc at a garage sale, but I want to make sure all my information is gone without having to go in and remove individual files. If I remove the memory boards, is that sufficient? Or will I need to remove the hard drive as well? I’m not trying to be paranoid, I just worry about identity theft. Please help me have peace of mind. – Jerry

  1. Anonymous Says:

Use DBAN. The information is only stored in the hard drive, and using this utility will permanently and irreversibly erase all data. Be careful when using this tool and make sure you’ve backed up everything you need.http://www.dban.org/

OH! No need to remove your hard drive just reformat your computer and reinstall your OS.
If you don’t know how to do it,ask help to a computer expert.
    Best of luck!

Use killdisk if you want to me sure.
Do it twice for absolute results. Once is generally fine though.
